Three years into her career, Jane Zhang has kept up a pace of one new album a year. At the start of 2009, her third solo album, “Jane Zhang@Music”, is about to be released. This highly anticipated new album went through a production cycle lasting as long as half a year, and after being carefully crafted by Huayi Music, it will hit stores before the Spring Festival. For the album as a whole, renowned Taiwanese musician Wawa served as production coordinator, with musicians Keith Stuart, Zhang Yadong and Guo Liang handling production, fully expressing Jane Zhang’s diversity through ten songs in different styles. You could say that after three years of hard work, Jane Zhang has finally found her own musical direction in this album, and the early-released album cover lets fans be the first to feel the visual impact of her brand-new image.
“Jane Zhang@Music”, a special album title, announces to the world with a somewhat audacious attitude Jane’s ambition in the world of music. The starting point of this album is “Jane Zhang’s music” — “Jane Zhang is in the music, and the music is Jane Zhang”. And @, a widely known internet symbol, looks quite ordinary in this somewhat unique album title, yet it is no meaningless expression. It highlights youth and vitality, and stands for endlessly more extension and more possibilities. This abstract concreteness is just like Jane’s performance on this album: free, unrestrained, effortless. All 10 songs on the album are good, so in the end they could only cast aside every flashy gimmick and return to simplicity, taking “Jane Zhang@Music” as the album title.
The ten songs collected on the album, each in a different style, are each like a wonderful short story, existing on their own terms. The lead single “That Can’t Be Love, Right?” has the passion and quirkiness of youth, “Light in the Dark Night” shows grandeur and beauty, and “Torn” is for those struggling in love and their friends… Listening to these songs, you hear a girl who loves to sing, transforming from a green, groping beginner into someone confident, truly enjoying the happiness of singing; through all the twists and turns of music she gradually takes on a distinctive shape. Listening to these songs, any kind of explanation may be superfluous — only the singing can find a meeting of hearts. When a certain song becomes an irreplaceable memory in the years of your life, you and your lover, your friends, and you and yourself will all hear a song that belongs to you in Jane Zhang’s new album.
In order to bring out the album’s musicality in its visuals, Huayi Music specially invited the well-known photographer Jiang Junmin to shoot a new set of promotional photos for Jane Zhang. In the early-released album cover, intense tones form the basis of the whole image, paired with Jane’s flowing long hair and an incomplete face — it looks like a photo gone wrong, but in fact expresses the core concept of this album: valuing musicality and breakthrough. It is said that in addition to this set of boldly conceptual promotional photos, the album also includes another set of fresh, simple images, striving to show every smile and glance of Jane Zhang in front of the camera through two sets of images in different styles.
“Jane Zhang@Music,” Jane Zhang’s third solo album, will go on full sale before the Spring Festival, and Huayi Music will also arrange a series of promotional events before the New Year, giving fans more chances to meet Jane Zhang face to face.
