Boss Whoosey has arrived in City A… His “inaugural address” really didn’t waste a single word.
Watching the first half, I kept finding more to like about Whoosey. He’s a rigorous, cautious, rational guy who values efficiency. When he deals with something, he always thinks it through, rationally weighs the pros and cons, and quickly settles on the best decision. Sure, that makes him seem a bit old-fashioned, but it’s exactly what you’d expect from the head of an interstellar expedition. As the first male commander-in-chief, I’m backing him too. Support.
This episode’s crisis comes from the alien pathogen contracted during the last break-in at Micle’s lab. The main plot: the pathogen inside Kelly flares up, her body is gradually assimilated, and at breakneck speed it grows into a Hive ship! Luckily, before she collapsed she had freed Carson; at the critical moment Carson develops a countermeasure, and in the end Sheppard flies a Jumper straight into the isolation room and uses a syringe to defuse the crisis.
Several moments this episode show how much Rodney cares about Kelly. (omitted)
Whoosey may be a rational guy who firmly enforces the rulebook, but once he got to City A he still dared to take a gamble at a life-or-death moment. Haha, I did say so last time, right? Didn’t expect it so soon. Yep, good comrade. A person needs to be rigorous, cautious, rational and efficiency-minded — but also flexible.
The rules we make are distilled from the laws of how things develop, a set of guidelines for the relatively optimal way to keep people acting correctly. But they don’t apply at all times. The key is that people must act according to the laws of how things develop, not according to man-made rules. (The laws of development never change, but the rules we make keep being refined and revised along with human experience.)
Whoosey is a smart guy; he knows that following nature is a higher level.
Hehe, Sheppard goes off on his own again — to save Kelly, he actually flies a Jumper straight into the isolation room to inject the antidote. Ugh! One move and it’s done. A real pro, and his RP is just great. American TV shows always embody this kind of humanitarian spirit: life over material wealth, saving people over protecting property. (Whereas what we’ve been fed is: for public property, you may sacrifice your life.)
Whoosey didn’t go after Sheppard either… Sigh, this kid changes fast. Whoosey himself said: “I violated at least half a dozen basic safety protocols” “Rules exist for a reason.”
