Two exciting things today. First: Fish Leong’s new album is out!
Not long ago she released the EP I Do, and I was still hungry for more. Now the new album has landed — awesome!
Album intro:
Fish Leong’s new album officially drops on January 16, more than a year after her last one. This new record, Jingru & Love Songs – Don’t Cry for Him Anymore, is her tenth solo release since her debut. Determined not to disappoint fans who had waited so long, and set on delivering the most perfect work possible, the ever-obedient Fish Leong actually went to the mat with her record label over the release date! She wheedled and pressured the company for ages, giving the label its first taste of the “Leong power” of a queen of love ballads! Jingru and the label each held their ground; the album’s release hit a stalemate. It turned out the label had very high hopes for the new album. Not wanting to miss out on submitting for next year’s Golden Melody Awards, it wanted to get the album out before the end of the year. Company execs felt that for Jingru, nominated four years running at the Golden Melody Awards, missing the entry deadline because the album couldn’t come out by the end of December would be a real shame. But although Fish Leong thought the Golden Melody Awards mattered, she didn’t want the time for vocal and album recording squeezed because of them. There was plenty of time ahead, she felt; making an album she could truly have no regrets about mattered more! Jingru wanted the release date pushed back so the album would have ample time to be as good as it could be. So the two sides locked horns in meeting after meeting over the timing, and the release was deadlocked for a while! Delayed by three weeks, the new album misses Christmas and New Year’s
In the end the label had no choice but to respect Jingru’s perfectionism and kept pushing the release date back. Because Jingru’s earlier concert had been themed Today Is Valentine’s Day, the label had originally planned to tie the album’s release to Christmas on 12/24. For the reasons above it had to be pushed to 12/31, but Jingru still insisted the post-production be flawless, and finally the official release was set for 1/16 — a full three weeks late. When the label heard the finished master recently, it had to admit that the perfect result her insistence produced was more convincing than any award!
Two idol dramas’ theme songs hit back to back; the “K-song queen” adds “theme song queen” to her titles
The new album is titled Jingru & Love Songs – Don’t Cry for Him Anymore, and its concept revolves around “bravely bidding farewell to old love, fearlessly pursuing new love.” From Happy Breakup to Worship, “Fish Leong love songs” has already become a proper noun, and this time it drew even more requests to be named as a drama theme song. From Blue Lan’s new drama I Do to My Queen, starring Ethan Ruan and Sonia Sui, both productions approached Jingru as soon as they learned she was about to release a new album, hoping the appeal of the spokesperson for love ballads would add to their stories. I Do airs on TTV Mondays through Thursdays at 10 p.m. starting 12/22, with reruns on TVBS-G Saturdays at 10 p.m. from 12/27; My Queen will also air on TTV Sundays at 10 p.m. from 1/4, then on SETTV Saturdays at 9 p.m. from 1/10 — almost creating the monopoly spectacle of hearing Fish Leong every night of the week.
Confident that the album had too many good songs, the label spent nearly 3.5 million before release to lock up all the theme songs for both idol dramas, so new Jingru songs could be heard every day from Monday to Sunday — and unexpectedly created the first case of Jingru “PK-ing” herself on TV through drama theme songs!
