Plot summary:
Spring returns to the earth, and it also happens to be the 100th anniversary celebration of Village Chief Slow Goat. But Slow Goat’s mount, the old snail, suddenly falls ill, and after examining it, the chief senses the gravity of the situation and plans to go inside the snail to wipe out the virus causing the disease. The young goats think it’s too dangerous and insist on going into the snail’s body to destroy the virus in the chief’s place. What they don’t know is that Big Big Wolf has overheard them, and he wants to get inside the snail too, to catch the goats. Pleasant Goat, Fit Goat, Lazy Goat and Pretty Goat arrive on the snail’s two antennae. Before Pleasant Goat and Pretty Goat can figure out what kind of place this is, they’re forcibly conscripted by white bacteria (white ox) soldiers. And with no boot camp at all, they’re dragged straight onto the battle-scarred front lines. In the barracks they learn that this is a bacterial kingdom perched on the snail’s antenna — the White Ox Kingdom. Lately this snail world has been anything but calm, with earthquakes going on day after day. The king concludes it must be the work of the black bacteria (black ox) kingdom on the other antenna — the Black Ox Kingdom. To wipe out the evil Black Ox Kingdom and stop this bacterial infection, the White Ox Kingdom drafts its entire national force and launches a war. Since their goals are the same, Pleasant Goat joins the White Ox Kingdom’s army and fights the Black Ox Kingdom’s bacteria alongside them. The two kingdoms draw up their battle lines at the border, and Pleasant Goat discovers that the Black Ox Kingdom is actually led by Big Big Wolf, who has even built newfangled weapons — tanks and aircraft. The White Ox Kingdom’s army is routed and surrounded on all sides. The communicator Pleasant Goat brought along has had no signal the whole time. To get in touch with the village chief, Pleasant Goat has to cross a dangerous forbidden zone — the Whirlpool Black Forest, where bacteria hardly ever set foot and where entering means almost certain death. But Pleasant Goat sets off without hesitation. After a long journey, just as he’s about to reach the forest’s exit, he runs into the mysterious barbarian bacteria tribe (yellow ox). He manages to escape, but the communicator falls into the barbarians’ hands. Big Big Wolf even becomes their military strategist, building all sorts of bacteria-controlling devices and wiping out both the Black Ox and White Ox bacterial kingdoms in one stroke. Once it’s done, the bacteria of those two kingdoms will be food for the barbarians, while the goats will be Big Big Wolf’s to enjoy. The mighty barbarian bacteria army surrounds the two kingdoms so tightly that nothing can get through, and declares that the bacteria of both kingdoms will become their food. Neither king could ever have imagined that the always gentle, peaceable barbarian bacteria were actually the true root cause of this world’s disease! Just as Big Big Wolf is gloating, he never expects that he himself gets eaten by the barbarian yellow-ox bacteria king. To save everyone, Pleasant Goat enters a life-and-death battle with the yellow ox, and in the end even makes the sacrifice that brings Little Grey back, getting Big Big Wolf to promise never to eat a single strand of wool again. In the end, the snail finally recovers its health, and the goats and Big Big Wolf and his wife return to the grassland. But at the victory celebration Big Big Wolf makes his move, declaring that he hasn’t broken his vow — he won’t eat a single strand of wool; he’ll skin them first and then eat them! To his surprise, Pleasant Goat was prepared all along and turns the tables on him.
